Safeguarding and Child Protection
Swarcliffe Primary School and Nursery is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our children. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and achieve this by ensuring continuous development and improvement of robust safeguarding processes and procedures that promote a culture of safeguarding amongst our staff, governors and volunteers.
We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent, effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school. We pride ourselves on knowing, not just our children's learning, but about them and their families as individuals and valued members of our community.
Our school safeguarding aims to ensure that:
- Children become successful learners, who enjoy learning; make progress and achieve.
- Children are confident, well-rounded individuals who live safe and healthy lives.
- Children become responsible citizens who will make a positive contribution to society.
- Appropriate action is taken in a timely manner to promote children's welfare.
- All staff are confident and trained in their statutory responsibilities.
- A culture of vigilance.
We follow the procedures set out by Leeds City Council- Leeds Safeguarding Children Partnership (LSCP- https://www.leedsscp.org.uk/) and take account of guidance issued by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (in particular Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2021 and Safer Recruitment in Education policy 2021).
Our first priority is of course your child’s welfare and school is required to take any reasonable action to ensure the safety of its pupils. However there may be occasions when we have reason to be concerned that a child may be subject to ill-treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse. We will ensure that our concerns about a child are discussed with his/her parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare. In this case school is obliged to follow the Child Protection procedures established by the Leeds Safeguarding Children’s Partnership and inform Social Services of the concern.
