Welcome back to the final half term of this school year.
In Literacy we will be learning all about fantasy settings.
We have started this topic by designing and making unusual pets out of clay. We painted our pets and created fact files about them.
In Numeracy we will be learning all about money and understanding the value of coins. The children will be playing shopping games to gain a deeper understanding the concept of money. Later we will looking at direction and movement.
Our Geography topic is very exciting because we will be learning about our local area. We will go on walks around the local area to discover landmarks which make Swarcliffe a fantastic place to live.
Science is all about materials and why we use certain materials to make objects. The children will be looking at everyday objects and investigating which materials they are made out of.
We are very excited to be back after a relaxing Easter, hope you had lots of rest and chocolate eggs!
This half term we will be learning about animals and their habitats. This will include animals from the desert, jungle, savannah and ocean so it is going to be lots of fun!
In Literacy, we have been learning to retell stories from other cultures and the children have enjoyed using actions to retell a familiar story. Over the next four weeks we are covering information text which we are linking with our animal topic. We will be learning about fiction and non-fiction texts and the layout of these texts.
In Numeracy, we are going to have a big focus on place value and the children will be doing lots of practical work to support their learning.
Our Science is all about pushes and pulls and we will be learning this concept through lots of experiments with cars and apparatus. The children will also experience this through various materials which they will pull and push and record their findings.
We have PE each Monday so please ensure children have their kit in school as we are learning all about ball games. As the weather gets better we will be doing this outside so if your child has trainers please send these in as well.
Homework will go out each Monday and we will need to have these returned by Friday so that the books can be ready to be taken again on Monday.
If you have any questions about your child’s learning please don’t hesitate to contact me.
WE HAVE HAD A VISITOR!!!
On Wednesday 27th February Year 1/2 went on a hunt after finding a clue in Rhys's locker. At the end we found some puppets and a Jack and the Beanstalk story. It was the Giant!
If you see him please tell someone in year 1/2.
He asked us to construct a house for him and he would choose his favourite.
I hope you have had a lovely half term and got up to lots of fun and exciting things.
This half term we are going to be continuing our topic all about Horrible Histories as we have enjoyed learning all about the Victorians. This half term we are going to be looking at the gory side of the Victorians; such as how they did not have toilets and they did not brush their teeth.
We are also going to be exploring the life of a plant in our science lessons.
We will be going on plant hunts around the
school to see if any plants have started to grow, looking at the different parts of a plant and how they grow. We may even become scientists and conduct our own experiment.
In numeracy we are going to be learning how to measure and what fractions are. Keep looking to see how we are getting on.
Please can I remind all parents and children that book bags need to be brought in every day and can your child please read to yourself or another family member or friend at least once a week.
The teachers thought they had the best historical knowledge but, Year 1/2 are going to show the rest of the school that they are the best!
This half term we are learning all about the Victorians; from
Queen Victoria to what education was like for children.
We started our topic by looking at a photograph, asking a range of questions to establish who it was. We eventually found out it was Queen Victoria. To help us learn about her life we have learnt a poem that Miss Kaye taught us.
In our Literacy lesson we are going to be studying the story 'Alice in Wonderland' which was originally written in the Victorian era, then using the plot line to create our own story set in a fantasy setting. So far we have really enjoyed reading the book and we have particularly enjoyed the Mad Hatters tea party.
In Numeracy we are going to be focusing on number order and formation, 2D and 3D shapes and measuring using standard and non standard units.
Our P.E focus is Gymnastics. Please can all children bring their P.E kits into school so that they can participate in our P.E lessons.
Our Christmas Salt dough decorations
This week we have been making some salt decorations to sell at our Christmas Market. We have had loads of fun making them and we had a visit from our class governor and Mrs Pavon who helped us make them.
Look at how much fun we have had.
On Monday we received a package from a magical (or not so magical) wizard. We received a school prospectus from Sprogwarts school of Magic and Mystery but, there is nothing inside it as Margo's spell went horribly wrong.
It is our job to save the day and put the prospectus back together!!
How will we get on?
Miss Wilson made a mess of the classroom and we had to help her sort it out.
We used our sorting skills and created a Venn diagram to see what objects we had.
To help us learn our number formation we used our bodies to make the different number.
Can you guess what the number is?
WELCOME TO YEAR 1/2
The children have settled well into their new class and have been showing Miss Wilson and Mrs Boak their skills and talents!!
Being and Belonging
This half term we are going to be learning all about ourselves, creating family trees, looking at where we live and where we come from.
WE HAVE ALSO HAD A VISITOR!!
After going on a hunt around school we found a baby dragon and a letter from their parent. They have been leaving lots of clues to help us with our work and we have written some amazing stories for them. We wonder what they will think of them.
Homework is going to be sent home on a Monday and is to be returned on a Friday.
This year we are going to be sending spelling home on a Monday and there will be a spelling test on Friday. We are having a massive push on spellings this year, so please can you practise them with your children.
Please can book bags and reading books be brought into school everyday so that we can read with your child and send home any documentation.
Our P.E day is on a Monday.
If you have any questions please come and see me. I am around both before and after school.
