This half term we are learning about the Olympics and preparing for our own Swarcliffe Games! We are making Olympic torches and medals and designing our own class flag. We have been following the Olympic torch in ICT.

In literacy are looking at adjectives to write our own Olympic poems. We are investigating sounds and hearing in science.
In numeracy we are learning to share and group objects.
We are really looking forward to all our exciting activities this half term.
After our amazing visit to the National Railway Museum in York we have been learning all about trains and transport. We have also looked at holidays, the seaside and now we are learning about pirates.
This half term we will be looking at fairytales and food.
The children will be learning about where food comes from and we will even be growing and eating some of our own food!

Towards the end of half term we will be preparing for and learning about Easter.
Welcome back – we’ve all settled back in really well after Christmas and have been working really hard.
This half term we are learning about toys, bears and materials.
We have a toy shop in the role play area where we are practising counting money carefully and we are writing shopping lists and receipts.
We have all started doing guided reading every day and we are trying really hard to get better at reading.
We enjoy practising reading and writing our tricky words: the, to, I, no, go.
When we know these we are going to learn he, she, we, me, be, was, you, they, all, are, my, her.
We are also working really hard to write all our letters properly and improve our handwriting.
In year 1 we are working with 2-digit numbers and are beginning to record our maths work with more confidence. We are also writing instructions and information text.
We are getting better at reading and trying to read with more fluency and expression. When we have finished a book we are trying to remember what has happened and talk about it with our teachers and our friends.
We will also be celebrating Chinese New Year on Monday 23rd January – it’s the year of the dragon.
What a busy half term we’ve had in Moon Class! We have settled in well and been working very hard.
We have lots of new things to play with like our sand tray…
In Literacy we have been retelling the story of the Billy Goats Gruff and writing poems about our senses.
Things you need to know about Moon Class:
PE will happen on a Friday - make sure your child has a PE kit in school and suitable footwear as some activities will take place outside.
Reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and Thursday.
Learning Logs will come home on a Monday and need to be returned to school on Friday.
